Villa d'Este

Villa of the Italian Renaissance, commissioned by Ippolito d'Este, son of Alfonso I and Lucrezia Borgia (Ferrara 1509 - Rome 1572), on a site that was already the location of an ancient Roman villa. It is included in the UNESCO World Heritage list.
Built by the architect Pirro Logorio who, around 1550, began the works that lasted about 20 years. The water that gushes from the numerous fountains and can still be admired today in all its splendor is taken directly from the Aniene river through a 600-meter-long underground channel. The entire complex covers 4 hectares and includes, in addition to the residential palace, a garden adorned with tree-lined avenues and hedges, and numerous fountains, true works of art.
